OHA Objections Stop Land Board From Vote on Waikoloa Dispute

A challenge by the Office of Hawaiian Affairs kept the state Board of Land and Natural Resources from voting on the most recent proposal from its staff to resolve a nearly 20-year dispute over ceded lands beneath the Hilton Waikoloa Village resort, on the Kona Coast of the Big Island.

One day before the Land Board's October 8 meeting in Keauhou, OHA issued a letter opposing recommendations by the Department of Land and Natural Resources' Land Division to grant an easement to Lanpar/HTL Associates for 0.468 acres of submerged lands, and a lease to Global Resort Partners for 1.337 acres of reclaimed lands.
