State Land Board: A Sucker for Sugar

The state Department of Transportation needs to shore up a part of the Honoapi'ilani Highway near Laniupoko County Park. There being no alternate route to Lahaina, and with work on the eroding revetment forcing closure of at times at least one lane of traffic, the DOT approached Pioneer Mill Company to inquire if the state could divert one lane of traffic to the paved cane haul road that parallels the highway just a few feet inland.
